HOW CHIROPRACTIC CARE CHANGED TOM BRADY’S CAREER [ by DoctorZo.Health ]

Chiropractic has been able to help many athletes in a variety of sports. You may have noticed the internet is filled with familiar faces sharing their experiences with chiropractic care. One being Tom Brady.

Doing a quick search of Tom Brady, you will find his remarkable statistics, what you may also find is his quote on chiropractic, which says it all: “Chiropractic just makes you feel so much better. When I walk out of the clinic, I feel like I’m about three inches taller and everything’s in place. And as long as I see the chiropractor, I feel like I’m one step ahead of the game.” Brady joins many athletes, including all of the athletes participating in the recent Olympic Games, in being able to take advantage of chiropractors’ knowledge of human anatomy to help them heal faster from injuries, prevent future health problems, and even improve their athletic performance.

Chiropractic care is currently a method of treatment for 32 NFL teams.

Chiropractic is a natural form of treatment that’s a great fit for elite athletes, who are in a sense like high-performance racing cars. They’re fast, but their bodies are also subjected to tremendous forces when they perform, both during training and competition. These athletes simply can’t rely on drugs to keep playing and most wouldn’t even if they could. As individuals as well, our bodies are subjected to everyday obstacles that most cannot rely on drugs or overpriced surgery to feel better.

Many athletes in many sports have joined Tom Brady in telling their own stories and offering their endorsements for the profession. Many athletes identify with chiropractic care because it has helped them be more injury-free and kept their bodies performing more optimally, which has made them better at their sport over the course of their careers. But even if you’re not a professional athlete, you too can benefit from regular chiropractic adjustments. Dr. Zo has had the pleasure to treat local athletes from surrounding schools to prepare them for their upcoming games to prevent any injuries. He has also treated post-injury patient athlete’s to have them return to the game better then ever.

Whether chiropractic care ultimately helps to improve your game, or just helps you recover from “overdoing it” during the weekend, isn’t that something you’d want to consider?

WHAT IS A DOCTOR OF CHIROPRACTIC? [by DoctorZo.Health]

  • Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) – often referred to as chiropractors or chiropractic physicians – practice a hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.
  • DCs may assess patients through clinical examination, laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging and other diagnostic interventions to determine when chiropractic treatment is appropriate or when it is not appropriate.
  • Chiropractors will readily refer patients to the appropriate health care provider when chiropractic care is not suitable for the patient’s condition, or the condition warrants co-management in conjunction with other health care providers.
  • In many cases, such as lower back pain, chiropractic care may be a patient’s primary method of treatment.
  • When other medical conditions exist, chiropractic services may complement or support medical treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal pain associated with the condition.
  • Like their medical colleagues, chiropractors are subject to the boundaries established in state practice acts and are regulated by state licensing boards. Their education in four-year doctoral graduate school programs is nationally accredited through an agency that operates under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Education. After graduation, they must pass national board exams before obtaining a license to practice, and then must maintain their license annually by earning continuing education (CE) credits through state-approved CE programs.

WHAT IS A SPINAL ADJUSTMENT? [ by DoctorZo.Health ]

One of the most common and well known therapeutic procedures performed by Doctors of Chiropractic is spinal manipulation (BETTER referred to as a (“chiropractic adjustment”). The purpose of a spinal ADJUSTMENT is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for an individual. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, allowing tissues to heal.

Chiropractic adjustment rarely causes discomfort. However, patients may sometimes experience mild soreness or aching following treatment (as with some forms of exercise) that usually resolves within 12 to 48 hours. Compared to other common treatments for pain, such as over-the-counter and prescription pain medications, chiropractic’s conservative approach offers a safe and effective option.

WHY CHOOSE CHIROPRACTIC CARE? [ by DoctorZo.Health ]

Chiropractic is the third-largest primary health care profession, surpassed in number only by doctors of medicine and dentistry. Doctors of chiropractic treat about 35 million Americans annually.

  • DCs are licensed to practice in all 50 states and the District of Columbia–and in many nations around the world–and undergo a rigorous education in the healing sciences at institutions accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • A growing list of research studies and reviews demonstrate that the services provided by chiropractic physicians are both safe and effective. The evidence strongly supports the natural, whole-body and cost-effective approach of chiropractic services for a variety of conditions.
  • Chiropractic services are included in most health insurance plans, including major medical plans, workers’ compensation, Medicare, some Medicaid plans, and Blue Cross Blue Shield plans for federal employees, among others.
  • Chiropractic is used extensively by amateur and professional athletes, professional dancers and others to prevent and treat injuries as well as achieve optimal health and functioning.

IS CHIROPRACTIC CARE GOOD FOR ATHLETES? [ by DoctorZo.Health ]

With regular chiropractic care, your athlete may notice increased flexibility and reduced muscle stiffness. This helps your child’s body meet the demands of youth sports, and it also helps decrease the risk of injuries from pulled muscles.

Athletes put a lot of pressure on their bodies every time they train, and physically intense activities can create problems with spinal alignment and movement. Receiving the appropriate chiropractic care can help undo the damage and prevent injuries before they occur, all while promoting movement that’s pain-free.

Athletes getting routine adjustments may notice improved athletic performance, improved range of motion (especially in endurance athletes), better flexibility, increased blood flow, and may suffer from fewer injuries.  Because spinal adjustments will reduce the irritation of the nerve roots between the vertebrae, the healing time from minor injuries can be shortened, improving performance.

Both high-impact and low-impact athletes can benefit from routine spinal adjustments.  For high-impact athletes, it increases performance and flexibility and lowers the risk for injury; for low-impact athletes (golfers, tennis players, and bowlers), routine adjustments can help relieve the strain that is being placed on the body.  Chiropractic care offers a natural way to treat and prevent many different ailments that often plague athletes.

  • If you have a headache, you’re not alone. Nine out of 10 Americans suffer from headaches. Some are occasional, some frequent, some are dull and throbbing, and some cause debilitating pain and nausea. What do you do when you suffer from a pounding headache? Do you grit your teeth and carry on? Lie down? Pop a pill and hope the pain goes away? There is a better alternative!
  • Research shows that spinal neck adjustment  – one of the primary treatments provided by doctors of chiropractic – is  an effective treatment option for tension headaches and headaches that originate in the neck.
  • A 2014 report in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT) found that interventions commonly used in chiropractic care improved outcomes for the treatment of acute and chronic neck pain and increased benefit was shown in several instances where a multimodal approach to neck pain had been used.
  • Also, a 2011 JMPT study found that chiropractic care and adjustments, can improve migraine and cervicogenic headaches.
